What does black motor oil mean

No it is not black. After long use of the vehicle the oil becomes oxidized and also due to the presence of contaminants the oil changes its color into black. That means the oil should be immediately changed otherwise it affects the performance of the engine due to improper heat transfer and lubrication. The oil you pour into your engine is a light amber-like color right out of the bottle, but after spending a few hundred miles inside your motor it starts to darken. This is completely normal, because modern oil contains detergent additives designed to help clear out gunk from inside the motor and then hold it in suspension so it can’t cause any harm.

This is completely normal, because modern oil contains detergent additives designed to help clear out gunk from inside the motor and then hold it in suspension so it can’t cause any harm. First, color doesn’t necessarily mean anything. Oil can be very, very dark (black even) and still be effective. However, as a general rule: New, clean oil is amber in color; As engine oil gets darker, it can indicate a) high heat, b) contaminants, or c) the presence of additives that cause the oil to darken during normal use. If you're using a detergent engine oil (and most modern engine oils have detergent additives), the oil is working just the way it's supposed to, dispersing the tiny particles that can result in engine sludge and holding them in suspension in the oil itself so that they can't build up.

Black exhaust smoke can be caused by  It’s common to assume that black motor oil has worn out or become too saturated with contaminants to protect your engine and requires changing. Not necessarily. As we saw, discoloration is a natural byproduct of heat and soot particles, which are too small to wear out your engine. Motor oil lubricates the engine and absorbs heat, enabling the engine’s internal parts to work efficiently without overheating. As oil ages, it begins to lose its protective properties and must be changed. When engine oil turns black, however, that doesn’t always mean a change is imminent. Here’s how to tell when it’s time for an oil change. Black oil indicates engine health. Black oil generally means the engine requires an oil change. Engines also can use up oil as they age or are used more frequently. If the car is driven more than usual, changing the oil before the mileage limit specified by the car manufacturer is recommended.
